Meet Mr. Schultz
     Don Schultz has been the Director of Instrumental Music Studies at Bernice Ayer Middle School since the fall of 2003. He graduated with honors from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota with a degree in Instrumental Music Education, including all wind, percussion and string instruments. Mr. Schultz attended Graduate School at the University of Minnesota, studying trumpet performance with David Baldwin. Mr. Schultz's professional affiliations include The California Music Educator's Association, The Southern California Band and Orchestra Association, The International Association of Jazz Educators, and the International Trumpet Guild.
     Most recently, Mr. Schultz served as High School Band Director and Music Department Chairman at Waconia High School in Waconia, Minnesota. During Mr. Schultz's nine years at WHS, the program expanded from 49 members to over 200 including 3 concert bands, 2 jazz ensembles, pep band, solo and ensemble and an extensive lesson program. The concert Bands and Jazz Ensembles consistently received superior ratings at state contests. The Waconia High School Marching Band, including 180 members and 10 band staff, is recognized through out the state as an outstanding, award winning organization. Mr. Schultz was the driving force behind the development of the Lake Waconia Band Festival, sponsored by the Waconia Music Boosters, Inc. and the City of Waconia. The band festival attracts 20 of Minnesota's finest marching bands each year. Mr. Schultz has mentored many student teachers who are currently successful music teacher and developed an extensive parent support structure as well as a strong student leadership group.
     Mr. Schultz and his wife Shereen reside in Laguna Beach.
